SUNY Brockport, is accepting applications for anticipated openings for a Resident Director. The Office of Residential Life and Learning Communities supports SUNY Brockport's mission by developing safe, inclusive, and vibrant communities that value academic excellence and overall student development. Through collaboration and unique relationships with students, our staff provides an appropriate balance of challenge and support, community development, and a purposeful residential curriculum with holistic student education at its core.
The Resident Director:
- Administers and operates a community of residential learning.
- Manages housing for approximately 200 to 400 first year, transfer, or continuing students.
- Supervises resident assistants and other student support staff.
- Develops and implements specific residential curriculum initiatives to build a comprehensive learning environment that fosters academic success and personal growth.
- Participates in the student conduct process.
- Participates in campus events.
- Serves on departmental and campus-wide committees.
- Teaches RA classes.
- Collaborates with living learning communities and with other Enrollment Management and Student Affairs departments such as: the Educational Opportunities Program, First-Year experience, Transfer experience, Student Union and Activities, Prevention and Outreach services, and Academic Advisement.
- Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling or related field by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university or Master’s Degree in progress with at least 12 matriculated credits.
- Ability to work in a diverse college population and commitment to creating an inclusive environment.
- Experience with student learning and development.
- Must be able to climb stairs, complete rounds, and physically respond to duty calls within residence halls across campus.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively on departmental initiatives including Living Learning Communities and Residential Education / Curriculum.
- Experience designing and implementing student learning outcomes.
- Experience with current technology initiatives such as Maxient, CBORD Odyssey HMS, Starfish, myInvolvment, CampusLabs Baseline, and SCT Banner information system.
The Office of Residential Life/Learning Communities Residence halls at SUNY Brockport are more than places where students sleep. They are vibrant, active communities where significant learning takes place. They are dedicated to student success through a commitment to collaboration, community, civility, diversity and responsible citizenship. The Residential Life/Learning Communities staff strive to enhance the experience of each of our residential students by providing developmentally appropriate educational initiatives, academic intervention and community building experiences. Our Living Learning Communities (LLCs) provide unique environments where select groups of students share common residential and learning experiences. Based on disciplinary and interdisciplinary themes, LLCs create intentional links between academic, social, and residential experiences. The program began in 2008 with just two pilot communities: Math & Science and the Brockport Global Village. Since then, the LLC program has grown in size and with nearly 850 students participating this year. Our on campus residential community is roughly around 2,700 with 14 residence halls.

- 140 miles from Toronto, the largest city in Canada and the home of the University of Toronto; and
- 350 miles from the many attractions of New York City.
The area features a number of technology companies, including Paychex, Xerox, and Kodak, and other large companies such as Wegmans and Excellus. Rochester and its suburbs feature some of the highest-quality public, private, parochial, and charter schools in New York State. The region is known for its natural beauty, including Lake Ontario, the Genesee River (with three major waterfalls in Letchworth State Park), and the Finger Lakes region with its notable vineyards and wineries.
Salary, Benefits and Appointment
Competitive salary commensurate with experience. We offer an excellent benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement, and generous paid time off.
There may be multiple openings for this position. This is a live in position that includes a furnished apartment and food allowance. The initial one-year appointment is renewable for up to four additional years contingent upon an annual successful performance review.
