Job Summary: SUNY Brockport has an opening for a Mental Health Counselor position (11 months – off in the month June) with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024. Reporting to and under the direction and supervision of the Associate Director of the Counseling Center in the Hazen Center for Integrated Care, this individual will be responsible for providing a wide range of direct mental health services to all enrolled students by assessing each student who requests services; developing and implementing mental health programs for the campus community; and collaborating with on and off campus offices to ensure students are able to access all appropriate resources.

The Counselor will facilitate assessments; develop treatment plans and arrange for appropriate follow up care which may include treating the student via individual and/or group counseling at the Counseling Center or referring the student to a community behavioral health provider or other community resource. Aligning with University goals, the Counselor will facilitate outreach programs and workshops and collaborate closely with campus partners to support wellness. When necessary, the Counselor is actively involved in helping manage crisis situations.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in counseling, social work or closely related field from a college or university accredited by a US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization. Degree must be completed by time of appointment.
  • NY Licensed (or eligible for licensure) to practice mental health counseling.
  • Experience working with, and ability to engage with a diverse client/student population.
  • Effective communication skills and demonstrated success collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3 years of professional, supervised counseling experience working in a mental health setting.
  • Experience working on a college campus.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating psycho-educational workshops and/or trainings.
  • Experience managing crisis situations.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm
Salary and Benefits: The Minimum Salary for this position is $49,711.
