| Job Summary: |
The Department of Dance at SUNY Brockport is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track, faculty with expertise in the practice, education, and research of theatrical and American vernacular dance forms, to join the nationally recognized and diverse faculty and professional staff at SUNY Brockport.
This position supports the department’s continuing development of the Jazz Dance; Dance for Film and Television, and Musical Theater and Tourism curriculums that serves as the bridge between SUNY Brockport’s rich Sankofa traditions and strong contemporary/modern dance legacy. Mentoring graduate and undergraduate student scholars in the research and creation of dance for media and stage is also a responsibility of this position.
The successful candidate will be called upon to teach in other movement and/or theory course to their area or interest/expertise, design new and innovative course work, create choreography for student and faculty concerts, support live and digital productions, build experiential learning experiences on and off campus, connect the department and the campus to the dance community beyond the University, and participate in shared governance throughout the campus. |
| Minimum Qualifications: |
- Terminal degree in Dance or related field from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education.
- Ability to teach all levels of technique connected to theatrical and concert dance, e.g. Musical Theater Dance, Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Social Dance
Forms.
- Ability to teach other technique a plus – Ballet, Contemporary, other interest and/or ability to teach at least three of the following topics: Choreography/Composition for the stage or screen, Undergraduate History, Dance Theory, Kinesiology, Dance and Technology, Dance Film, Pedagogy, Dance Conditioning/Health and Wellness for Dance, courses for the graduate program.
- Ability to choreograph and director department concerts or musical productions.
- Current research agenda with scholarly activity at an established level.
- Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with the department faculty, staff, and directors.
- Demonstrate a commitment to working with individuals from a variety of communities and cultures, and encourage diversity in the curriculum, student body, and faculty.

| Preferred Qualifications: |
- Minimum of two years of experience teaching dance in higher education.
- Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate student research and/or choreography.
- Professional performance or choreography experience in the field of dance.
- Demonstrated interest in contributing to the evolution of dance curriculum in higher education.
