Lead Writing Learning Assistant, ASC Learning Assistance Center- Temporary in Brockport, NY
The Lead Writing Tutor provides specialized one-on-one writing instruction to students from all levels and disciplines at any stage of the writing process. Instruction may include helping students locate, evaluate, interpret, and integrate information from sources; develop reading strategies; explore discipline-specific genre conventions; improve written English language fluency and vocabulary; understand assignments and create action plans; narrow a research focus; develop sentence structure repertoire; learn grammar and punctuation standards; and use citation formats. To perform these tasks, the Lead Writing Tutor is responsible for keeping current in writing studies and writing center theories and best practices. Additional tasks include designing programming for particular cohorts of student writers, such as conversation groups for English language learners, writing groups for dissertation writers, and APA workshops for Nursing students. The purpose of the position is to support student writers by helping them develop the skills, habits of thoughts, and confidence needed to participate in academic writing communities at various levels. Work will be completed on site at the Brockport campus during open hours, including some evenings.
